There are a few things that are reliable in this world. The sun will rise in the east and set in the west, the sky will always be blue, and Disney is still capable of making quality family movies. Even after all these years.
Sky High is the story of a high school for the kids of superheroes, who hopefully will become superheroes themselves. Will Stronghold is the son of Josie and Steve Stronghold (aka Jetstream and Commander, the greatest superhero duo of all time). And he has no superpowers. His best friend (who has fallen in love with him) is Lela, who has one very great superpower of her own. Throw in a few more superkids with a few more wacky powers and add in a very transparent plot and you get the basic point. But never count out Disney magic, which works it's charms here more than in some of it's more recent movies.
Kids are cute, the humor is witty and stupid both (only Disney), and ultimately you get a very happy ending. There are a few wrenches in this well oiled system however. Not only does the script take time to subtlely throw in comment on class systems, loyalty, first impressions, and expectation. But it also has the greatest final line of any movie I have ever seen (including King Kong). Leave it to Disney to take a well troden plot and cast of characters and turn it into a supremely entertaining, well acted, and geniunely fuuny and heartful movie.
