Kill Bill Vol.1: A-

This movie doesn't you want you to so much enjoy it's story and characters (although you most certainly will) as to marvel at the humor and physicality with which it was made. It is sort of brutally brilliant.

In this 4th film written and directed by Quentin Tarintino (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown) we follow one un-named assasin codenamed Black Mamba (Uma Thurmon) as she seeks to avenge herself of the attempted taking of her life and the entire slaughter of her wedding party (on the day of her wedding no less) by her former associates, the Deadly Viper Assasination Squad (DiVAS), and her former boss......Bill (David Carridine). First on her death list? O'Ren Ishii (Lucy Lui), a Tokyo crime lord that takes a whole 1/3 of the movie to eliminate. Then Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), whose homewrecking battle inspires laughter, glee, and adrenaline rushes....all in the span of about 10-13 minutes.

This is part 1 of 2, in the second part we are to assume she finishes off her list by killing Bill's brother Budd (Micheal Madsen). Bill's new lover, Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah). And of course Bill himself. Tarintino writes with a brusque grace, he has an ear for ironic and often smile-inducing scenes and an eye for the goriest of all situations. Be both amazed and horified and come to see the sequel. Rest assured it will be mind-blowing.
