Derailed: C-

This is a thriller that is influenced by many different elements: romantic comedy, revenge thriller, domestic instability, con game, etc. The movie, which is nearly two hours long, would best work as a 30 minute film showcased at a film festival to show the emotional depth you can pack in with a few good actors. The actors are Clive Owen, as the husband with the dying daughter, and Jennifer Aniston, as the financial advisor with the mysterious family, and they are truly great actors. Her last piece of work, "Friends With Money", was an acerbic turn for the comedically gifted actress and Clive Owen is an eternally expressive and dramatic actor and in this film they fall apart. See him quiver (what?), see her cry (huh?) but whatever you do don't question the logic of this brain-dead thriller. The script is barely serviceable except when Owen and Anniston banter in the beginning, that's when things lighten up. The plot thinks it's just so tight with tension when it's really full of yawns. Oh but Vincent Cassel as the villian is super, in his accented and cocky way. One piece of advice: wait for the last 15 minutes. They don't make the movie in any way worth it but at least they give it a point.
