The Devil Wears Prada: B
This junky and strangely toothless satire has two things going for it: Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep. Tucci plays Meryl's second-in-command/fashion director at the fictional mag Runway and Meryl (as by now probably everyone knwos) plays the legendary (and legendarily) domineering editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly. Streep plays up the role as never before and some critics are right in screaming "Oscar bait!". Tucci, on the other hand, is kind and caring and very funny as the shrewd fatherly little fashionista. The rest of the movie? Anne Hathaway, as Priestley's new assistant, is too good to be very very evil (although she was a revelation as the chilly wife to Jake Gyllenahal in "Brokeback Mountain"), and her two best friends and boy friend Nate (the hilarious "Entourage" star Adrien Grenier) are given too little to do as comic relief/heart of the feel-good film this movie wants to be. Without the combination of Streep and Tucci this film would have been very very bad. With them? It's pure hilarious fun.
